A bit about the Wildlife Society: "We are a professional organization aimed at providing hands on experience in the wildlife field for members who enjoy wildlife and especially for those students who are serious about a career in the wildlife profession. Through hands on experience, members gain vital and invaluable skills they need to have to land internships and employment. We also aim to attract students who may not desire to have a career in the wildlife field but enjoy wildlife and the outdoors. Through trips, guest speakers and events we hope to please all levels of interest in wildlife."
Annual Society events include the Techniques Weekend on October 23-25th which involves camping out at a rod and gun club and having several wildlife professionals come and teach various skills and techniques such as small and large mammal trapping, chemical immobilization, radio telemetry, map and compass use and other skills. Last year's popular Falconer event will be repeated this Spring during which members get to have a hawk fly to their hand. The Society strives to host as many guest speakers as possible to come in between events to talk about their jobs or projects.
